Friday Featured Poets: Charles Antin & Mike Moser!

Hello poetry fans! We have TWO featured poets for this Friday. Charles Antin and Mike Moser like to incite each other by trading haikus! Charles told me he loves provocative haikus! He and Mike "have been friends for two years and have been writing haikus back and forth for at least a year. [We] enjoy Cuban food, fine claret, and Blackberry messenger.”

And you can read their Crackberry exchange here!

I love their stuff! Not only did it make me laugh out loud, but I feel it’s a perfect glimpse into the life of a New York city dweller. My suburban friends might find it shocking and a bit raw, but it’s honest and reflects our daily lives here in Gotham. I also love how they feed off of each other’s creativity and fire off their haiku spontaneously. I can see them texting furiously on their Crackberries. As a writer, I think it’s so awesome to be able to watch someone else’s creative process. So, as Charles suggested, I’ve left the time stamps on these. Charles also told me that he and Mike did a "head to head haiku slam" at a bar one time and I bet it was hilarious! Please comment on their work and tell them to do another haiku jam because I'd love to see it.

Here’s what he sent me – enjoy!

Some miscellaneous ones from our email exchange:

Enjambment is a
Pretty cheap way to write a
Haiku, don't you think?

Asleep on the train
Almost at Coney Island
I see a seagull!"

Hah! The Billyburg one is my favorite! Okay, I promised a shout out to Susanna Speier. Let’s give Charles and Mike their Friday fame. Then tomorrow, we'll devote some time to Susanna and her awesome take on haiku – Politiku! Poets, get your provocative haiku ready because she has a call for submissions!

Alison,
Here's a haiku for you!

I've extended this into a "17 syllable" haiku ;-)

Original version was without 'long'.

dusk at the golf club
part of a long marker pole
a tawny frogmouth
